My Approach/Techniques

my-approach-techniques

People have asked why I call my work Integrative Bodywork and Massage. That is because I combine the techniques I have studied over the years to fit the needs of each client. It is important to have a varied tool box to work from. I have been fortunate to do advanced training with some of the finest instructors in the area, particularly those teaching advanced Myofascial Massage and Orthopedic Manual Therapy as well as other science- based models of bodywork. My interest in expanding what I offer to my clients grows stronger over the years as I continue to learn.

The following is a list of the modalities I utilize in my practice. If you prefer to focus your session on one specific modality (such as Craniosacral Therapy), just let me know and we can do that. All modalities of bodywork and additional tools are included in your session at no extra charge. Feel free to ask me about any of the techniques I practice or modalities I use in conjunction with manual therapy.

The way I work

Whatever would be most therapeutic for you is what we do. There’s never an extra charge for deep tissue work or any of the additional tools I work with. Each Session is tailored to meet your specific needs and to create a specialized therapeutic experience. I can work as deeply or softly as you require. I welcome feedback throughout the session. I consider my work to be a collaborative effort toward a positive outcome.

About the hot stones

The way I work with the stones is different from the traditional spa approach. Instead of working exclusively with the stones, or doing stone placement on the body, I work with the hot stones as an adjunct to therapeutic work. I don’t simply lay them on the body, but rather use them as I would my hands in order to relax areas where the muscles are most tight, to help release trigger points or melt areas of adhesive tissue. The use of the stones is effective for both clients who prefer deep work and for those who require less pressure because the heat of the stones relaxes the muscle mass and areas of adhesive tissue, without having to work in too deeply. For this reason, they are also wonderful for prenatal massage.

After care/exercises

In my many years in practice, I have come to understand the relationship between structural imbalance/postural imbalance and recurrent patterns of chronic pain.  For this reason, I offer clients specific stretches and exercises movements based on their individual needs to help them to maintain the benefits of the work and to break the pattern of pain and consistent muscle tightness.  In addition to my study of posture and gait analysis, I am an avid student of yoga, which provides me with wonderful restorative poses I also share with my clients.

Commitment to Excellence

Bodywork is a fascinating and dynamic field. I love what I do and I am passionate about learning new ways to be more effective with my clients. I’m continually learning new modalities and updating my skills.

Your comfort comes first/extra touches

In my practice I use only quality cotton flannel linens, unscented organic massage oil and unscented organic massage lotion which is hypoallergenic. All the products I use contain no parabens or harmful preservatives. My massage table is heated, extra padded and extra wide. I’ve been told by many, that it’s the most comfortable table they’ve ever laid on. I use heated back warmers, pillows and hand mitts and ice packs when needed. Organic aromatherapeutic face sprays also available upon request.
